Perspective vs. truth: Absolute or relative?

I’ve had an opportunity to answer this question many times.

And you know what?

In my opinion, every truth depends on the perspective.

For example, imagine two people standing on opposite sides of a giant sculpture. From one side, Person A sees a smooth, sleek surface, while Person B, on the other side, sees a rough, jagged texture.

Both describe the same sculpture, but their experiences and perceptions differ based on their perspectives. Each person’s truth is shaped by what they can observe and how they interpret it.

This concept extends beyond physical objects to more abstract ideas, such as morality, justice, or personal experiences. A situation that seems entirely fair and just to one person might seem deeply unfair to another, depending on their background, values, and role in that situation.

Truth vs. perspective

Take the example of a historical event, like the colonization of a country. To the colonizers, this might have been seen as a mission of progress and civilization. However, to the indigenous people, it might have been seen as an invasion and an erasure of their culture. Both groups experience the same event, but their truths about it are shaped by their unique perspectives.

In this way, truth can be considered relative rather than absolute

Each individual or group interprets reality based on their own experiences, biases, and context.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that all truths are equally valid in every context, but it does mean that understanding multiple perspectives is crucial to getting a fuller picture of reality. Absolute truth, if it exists, might be an amalgamation of all these relative truths, something that is difficult, if not impossible, to fully grasp from a single vantage point.

So… Is your perspective similar to the truth?
