Technology definitely making us more alone.
At least that’s how it’s in my case.
I’ve been writing as a freelance copywriter for 5 years. That’s my first job – from my first day being a copywriter, I work from home.
Every day from 5 A.M to 2 P.M (yeah, I’m crazy), I’m alone, working without any living person beside me.
After work I have an hour of Spanish lesson 5 days weekly (remote, on Preply).
And then… I’m not alone because, after all, I go to the gym and exercise with my friends.
But to be honest with you… all of my friends at the gym listening to music on their headphones… so I’m still alone.
It’s 5 P.M, I come back to the home, and spend time with my girlfriend.
From this point, I’m not alone… because my future wife talks with me about the whole day, and generally all is perfect.
And that’s the question… Do you think that I’m alone during my day or not?
There are two perspectives:
- No, because I communicate with many of my business partners via e-mail or Zoom meetings. Additionally, I regularly go to the gym and high-five with my gym buddies (even though we don’t talk because each of us uses headphones).
- Yes, because I don’t have any real contact with my clients, and deep interactions with my friends from the gym, etc., and generally, for 90% of my day, I’m completely alone.
What’s the truth?
I know that I’m alone during my work, but I’m fine with that. I wouldn’t be able to work with whoever in my room because as a copywriter, I need peace and quiet.
But… if technology wouldn’t dominate our lives… I would probably work on board and cultivate contact with people (even during work breaks because we would talk together).
It’s different. However, is it worse?
